The Welfare Department of the District Council is mainly responsible to the Council for the management of the Welfare services and organisation of Social, Cultural, Religious and Sports activities within the District Council area for the benefit of the inhabitants.
SOCIO-CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES
The council organises several Socio-cultural activities throughout the year, more particularly in the context of the celebration of National Festivals with the collaboration of different religious and cultural associations / organisations. Some of these activities include; the Divali Festival, the Mohunlall Mohit Award, the Eid Festival, Christmas and End of Year Festival, a Cultural Program for the Abolition of Slavery and a reception for the pilgrims of Maha Shivaratree.
SPORTS AND LEISURE AMENITIES
Sports activities are regularly organised in different disciplines. Football tournaments among others are organised and awards and other prizes are offered to winners of the different tournaments.
